What a dark week. RIP.

My conclusion, coming at the end of an extensive landscape of ideas, would be: beware of women, but most particularly beware of the feminine part of your own nature, which is set on destroying you. The liking to have things easy, the need for warmth, the hunger for ornament, all these essentially feminine attributes, are inimical to the male. Woman - and the feminine in general - knocks a man down to his anti-male feelings. I could name you any number of outstanding men who were ruined by their wives. Persons of great talent, and the most impressive scale. The feminine is treacherous by its very nature. It undermines and hollows out. It’s poison for the masculine brain, for the brain as a whole, for the masculine. If it’s a matter of taking a man apart into his components, and not bothering to reassemble him… In scientific terms, a woman is a sort of effigy of a man… The hereditary enemy of thought… I mean, they don’t even let their husbands read newspapers… Yes, the man who keeps them is not allowed to think… Woman is a destroyer, she’s not capable of friendship… They’re made for marriage and children, the only moment they stop lying is when they’re giving birth… Women are for bedding, and nothing more. A woman has no sense of humor. She’s the devil’s tool, and she’s responsible for the tragedy of humankind.
Thomas Bernhard, Frost, 1963. Translated from German, 2006.
